Women in Photography: Then + Now

  • Garde Arts Center / Oasis Room 325 State Street New London, CT, 06320 United States (map)

Women in Photography: Then + Now is a special event that will feature the photography exhibit Unseen Stories, a performance of Breaking Glass, and a Fireside Chat with Emma Palzere-Rae and AtelierMOCA, moderated by Rebecca Atkins, Executive Director of Artreach, Inc.

Breaking Glass is inspired by the life of Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. Cameron took up photography at the age of 48. She produced 900 photographs in a 12-year period, capturing 'famous men and fair women.’ One of the first art photographers, she is credited with creating the ‘close-up.’ Yet, as a woman, she faced fierce criticism. Today, few know of her immense contribution to the art of photography. This play aims to change that.

Free and open to the public. Presented by Artreach, Inc.
